Storage Devices

There are several different storage devices.

They fall into either category of non removable or removable

Non Removable Storage Devices

Hard Drive

The Hard Drive is the main storage device in your computer. It stores information that you save onto your computer. The hard disks are the disks you write data to, but the hard drive holds the hard disks. The hard drive can hold lots of data or little data, depending on what type you have.

Removable Storage Devices

Floppy Disk

Not many people use them anymore, but you can write data and take data off of them. They take longer to write information or take information of than hard drives. They are a lot cheaper though. You can also flip a switch on the floppy disk, so you can't write anything on it. It is called floppy because it is flexible (but don't bend it).

CD

CD

CDs took the place of the floppy disks, they can hold more memory, don't take as long to put information on, but you can't delete information off of them, once you write a file to a CD it stays on there, you can copy the information off of it onto your computer, but you can't delete it. CDs can handle a lot of abuse but one thing that will mess them up is scratches, with scratches on a CD the computer or CD player can't read the data on it. A CD could be considered a storage device or an input device.

USB Drive

USB

Holds information. Just like a portable hard drive, but it doesn't hold as much space. You can add, take off, delete, information on it. Above is what my USB drive looks like, they can come in many different sizes, colors, and prices.
