Input Devices

Input devices put information into the computer. When you use an input devices, it sends electric signals to the computer telling it what to do, just like your body. Some examples are pointing devices, keyboard, and and scanners.

Pointing Devices:

Pointing devices include, mouse, trackball

Mouse

A ball under the mouse moves as you move the mouse and sends signals to the computer, to move the cursor. Some mice have laser lights instead of a ball to sense the position of the mouse.

Trackball

Just like a upside down mouse, instead of move the mouse you just move the ball. It requires less desk space.

Glide pad

Small, and uses less desk space than a mouse. Its the type of mouse your use for a laptop.

Other

other input devices include

  • joysticks, if you play computer games
  • touch pad, like at an ATM,
  • Pen Input - use a special pin to select what you want like on PDAs (personal digital assistant)

Keyboard

Keyboards input data into the computer, almost every computer has one

Scanners

To use them you put a the paper that you want to scan into the computer. They are also many other scanners, like bar code scanners at the grocery store, or credit card scanners at the mall.
