Hardware:

The physical parts of the computer.

Motherboard:

The motherboard contains the main electronic components and circuitry which make the computer work. Everything is either on or connected to the motherboard in some way. The motherboard is like the "heart" of the computer.

Some examples are : CPU, Video Card, Sound Card, Modem Card Network Card Wireless Network Card

CPU (Central Processing Unit)

The CPU is the "brain" of the computer. It controls all the other components of the computer, and it can make calculations. It receives instructions from programs. The CPU is the most important chip in the computer.

Video Card
(Also called: Video accelerator, graphics card, display adapter)

The video card converts information produced by the computer into electric signals needed by the monitor to display images.

Sound Card

The sound card is used for input and output of sound between the computer and speakers, microphones, headphones, etc.
So basically you plug the microphone, speakers sect. into the sound card and it converts sound into electric signals the computer can read, or it converts electric signals into sound. (Its almost like a video card but just with sound.)

Modem Card

Allows the computer to send information over the phone line. Most computers have them. You use them if you have Dial Up.

Network Card

Send and receive information over a network. The most common network is Ethernet

Wireless Network Card

A wire network card does the same thing but its wireless.
